The Ontario Municipal Elections are coming soon on October 26th. In the City of Waterloo, residents can vote for one City Councilor, one Mayor, between one and three School Board trustees depending on the school board, and up to two Regional Councilors for Waterloo.

What does the City of Waterloo Government do?
The City of Waterloo government is divided into four main departments and is responsible for strategic initiatives, community services, corporate (city) services, and planning and public works. Many divisions fall under the four main departments.

What does the Region of Waterloo Government do?
The Region of Waterloo government is divided into eight main departments and is responsible for community services, corporate (regional) services, engineering and environmental services, human resources, planning, development and legislative services, public health and paramedic services, resident experience, strategy and communications, and transportation services.

What are the local school boards?
The local schoolboards are the Waterloo English Public Board, Waterloo French Public Board, Waterloo English Catholic Board, and Waterloo French Catholic Board. Each residential property supports one of these school boards, with restrictions on which school board can be supported by each property.

Who is eligible to vote?
Canadian citizens aged 18+ who live in Waterloo are eligible to vote.

When and where can I vote?
All voting information is available on the City of Waterloo Vote in the Municipal Election page. Look at this page or your voter card to find more information about advance polls, voting at your poll or a Superpoll location on voting day, voting by proxy, and accessible voting support.
All registered voters can check their voting information, which includes the candidates they can vote for, information about advance polls and Superpoll locations, and their poll location for voting on Monday October 26th.

What do I need to bring to vote?
All voters need to show proof of ID and proof of address. Please look at the City of Waterloo Vote in the Municipal Election page for more information.

Information for Students
If you live in Waterloo for secondary school you may be eligible to vote in the municipal election in Waterloo and the municipal election in your home municipality. See the City of Waterloo information for university and college students.

New to voting in a municipal election? Join our free information session with the City of Waterloo Election Team. We will talk about who you can vote for, what you are voting for, and why municipal elections are important to your community and everyday life. We will also explain how to check or update your information on the voters’ list, when and where to vote, and what to expect when you go to a voting location. You will have a chance to ask questions and get help getting ready to vote.
