About the Express Book Kiosk
The Express Book Kiosk makes it easy to browse and borrow books on your schedule. Located in the Albert McCormick Community Centre during the McCormick Branch renovation project, it offers convenient access to a collection of popular adult, teen, and junior books while construction is underway. Stop by during the facility’s open hours to discover your next great read.
How It Works
Borrowing
- Scan your Waterloo Public Library card
- Open the door when it unlocks
- Browse and take the books you want
- Close the door to finish your checkout
- The kiosk will automatically check out the items that were removed and ask you if you want a receipt (either printed or emailed)
Returning
You can return items to any of our WPL locations in the internal or external return bins.

Where is the Express Book Kiosk located?
The kiosk is located in the Albert McCormick Community Centre (500 Parkside Drive, Waterloo) near the West Rink. The kiosk can be accessed anytime the building is open.

What types of books are in the kiosk?
There is a selection of the following materials available in the kiosk:
- Adult Fiction & Non-fiction
- Teen Fiction
- Junior Fiction
- Picturebooks

Can I place holds on books in the kiosk or pick up my library holds at the kiosk?
Holds are not available for pick up at the kiosk, and items in the kiosk cannot be placed on hold. You can pick up holds from any WPL location or one of our holds lockers. The McCormick Branch Holds Locker is located directly beside the kiosk.

Can I return items to the kiosk?
No, you cannot return items to the kiosk. You can return items to any of our WPL locations, in the internal or external return bins.

Can I see what's in the kiosk before visiting?
No, the kiosk is for browsable items only and they do not appear in our online catalogue. If you are looking for a specific item, you can place it on hold for pickup at our McCormick Branch Holds Locker or any WPL location.

How many books does the kiosk hold?
The kiosk can hold between 125 and 200 books at a time and is regularly restocked.

How does the kiosk know what I borrow?
Each book contains a small tracking tag (RFID tag) that allows the kiosk to identify it. When the door closes, the kiosk scans the books that remain inside and automatically checks out any books that have been removed.
