Throne of Glass: Eight Books, Endless Feels

Written by Guest Blogger: Allie G. (Summer Student, Eastside Branch)

Sarah J. Maas’s Throne of Glass series follows Celaena Sardothien, an assassin fighting for her own freedom, and to destroy the evil forces taking over the kingdom of Adarlan and spreading through the continent of Erilea. I can’t say much else without spoiling the rest of the series, but just know that these eight books changed my life. Since I finished the series, I haven’t found a book that can fill the TOG shaped hole in my heart. This series was heartbreaking and heartwarming, filled with complex relationships, friendships and found family.

There is so much character development and growth, strength and vulnerability, but also lighter, actual LOL moments. Eight books may seem like a huge commitment, but this saga has something for everyone. The storyline is filled with plot twists, politics and ancient powers. It has betrayals, battles, and slow burn romances. Enemies-to-lovers that start with a literal punch in the face. I can still recall the moments I had to put the books down and stare at a wall for a moment just to collect myself before I continued reading. I simultaneously want to curse Sarah J. Maas and thank her for writing the best books I have ever read, because I still think about these books daily and doubt I will ever recover from the emotional damage.

Throne of Glass is so much more than a silly little fantasy series; the world and character building are unmatched, and you truly build your own relationships and connections with the characters as they develop their own. The series isn’t just about assassins and monsters, kings and queens, it is a lesson in dealing with grief, confronting literal and metaphorical demons, healing, and learning to trust again. I love this series with all my heart, and highly recommend to anyone willing to put themselves through the trials and tribulations that come with getting attached to the characters in the world of Celaena Sardothien.
