National AccessAbility Week<\/a> is recognized annually across Canada to raise awareness of the critical need for accessibility and inclusion for all in our communities and workplaces, and to celebrate Canadians with disabilities.<\/p>\n

At Waterloo Public Library, we believe the library should be a place where everyone feels welcome, supported, and able to fully participate. That idea is at the heart of our Strategic Plan<\/a>, especially our focus on creating A Place for All<\/strong> – spaces, services, and experiences that reflect the diverse and evolving needs of our community.<\/p>\n

Over the past year, we\u2019ve been taking a closer look at what accessibility really means in practice. With support from accessibility consultants, a broad cross section of library staff worked together to review everything from our spaces and technology to our programs and communications. This process helped us better understand what we\u2019re doing well, where we can improve, and what meaningful, lasting change looks like. It also led to a staff driven action plan that is now guiding accessibility work across the organization.<\/p>\n

This work is ongoing\u2014and it\u2019s intentional. Accessibility isn\u2019t a one time project; it\u2019s something we build into how we plan, design, and deliver library services every day. As we look to the future of our spaces and programs, we\u2019re continuing to prioritize accessibility and work alongside our community to create a library where more people can connect, learn, and belong.<\/p>\n
