The Walter Bean Trail
You are on the Walter Bean Trail, which follows the Grand River from West Montrose in Woolwich to Cruikston Park in Cambridge. It is one of the trails in the “Grand Watershed Trails Network” which aims to complete a trail along the entire Grand River, from the Dundalk Highlands to Lake Erie. This section of the trail is named after Walter Bean, a community leader and local businessman who was passionate about seeing the trail completed fully.

The trail you see before you follows the river through natural floodplains and forests as it heads around the golf course to end up at Country Squire Road. The trail is either paved or crushed gravel for easy walking or biking. Not all of the Walter Bean trail follows the river, though, as there are parts of the riverbank that are inaccessible. Some of the nicer parts of the trail that are nearby can be found in Kiwanis Park, or just off Riverbend Drive with a parking lot north of the KW Humane Society.
