Visit any Waterloo Public Library location or register online.

Adults must provide personal identification and proof of current address.

Teens accompanied by a parent or guardian can use that parent or guardian’s identification as proof of address.

Children under 13 years of age must have a parent or guardian sign their library card.

Accepted personal identification:

  • Driver’s License
  • Student ID Card
  • Passport
  • Credit Card
  • Bus Pass

Accepted address verification:

  • Driver's License
  • Recent utility bill
  • Recent rental agreement
  • Recent tax bill

By signing your Waterloo Public Library card – or your child’s library card – you agree to take responsibility for all materials borrowed on that card, to notify the library immediately if your card is lost or stolen, and to let us know if your contact details change.

Key Tag Cards

Our key tag library cards include a standard library card and a detachable key tag piece that can be attached to a key chain. Both pieces have the same barcode so either one can be used to borrow library materials.

New members can choose a free standard library card or a key tag card for $1.00.

Current members can replace their standard library card for $3.00 or a key tag card for $4.00.

Lost Cards

Please notify us immediately if your card is lost or stolen. You must show identification and proof of address to get a replacement library card.

Replacement library cards cost $3.00.

Membership Renewal

All Waterloo Public Library members must renew their library cards once a year. 

To renew your library card, visit any Waterloo Public Library location, phone 519-886-1310 ext. 110 or email Please have your library card with you. You will be asked to verify your contact details and pay any fines owing on your library card

If your address, phone number, or email has changed, please let us know promptly.
