Help us reach our goal of collecting 3000 pairs of socks!
During the month of February, members of our community are encouraged to bring new pairs of socks for adults to the library. The donated socks will be given to The Working Centre and St. John’s Kitchen, who will then distribute the socks to the homeless in our community.
“When we started the Toasty Toes Sock Drive back in 2013, it ran for just 2 weeks and our generous customers stepped up and donated 350 pairs of socks."says Sandi Hall, Marketing & Communications Specialist at WPL. “In 2016, thanks to our amazing customers and community partners, over 2200 pairs of socks were donated!”
Many of the foot-related afflictions from which the homeless suffer—swelling, blisters, skin infections, even frostbite—can be avoided simply by wearing new, dry socks.
“A new pair of socks can make a world of difference to a homeless person trying to stay warm in the winter or dry in a wet spring.” says Hall. “While donating socks may seem like a small thing, helping others in our community who are less fortunate is not.”
Collection bins for the socks donated by the general public will be at every WPL location for the month of February.

The "Me to We" student group at Mary Johnston Public School will be holding a Toasty Toes Sock Drive on our behalf. The students did this in 2016 as well and collected an astounding 1031 pairs of socks. Our goal this year is to collect 3000 pairs and with their help, we are confident we will make this goal.
Our friends at the David Johnston Research + Technology Park University of Waterloo will be taking part in our sock drive for the 3rd consecutive year. Their collection is always impressive so we are anticipating great things.
Donovan Insurance Brokers are holding their first Toasty Toes Sock Drive for the Homeless this year. Welcome, and thank you!
