Elmore Leonard
Elmore Leonard started out as a playright…for his 5th grade classmates! In high school, he wrote a few articles for the school newspaper, but prefered reading to writing. He joined the Navy in 1943; leaving in 1946 and enrolling at the University of Detroit. In 1950 he graduated with a major in English and philosophy. His first novel, a western, was published in 1953. He switched from westerns to crime in the 1970’s. Elmore Leonard is a multiple award-winning writer with a number of his books making their way to the silver screen.
