Dick Francis
Francis, former Champion Jockey and winner of over 350 races, turned his attention to writing in 1957 when, after a particularly nasty fall, he retired from racing. His first book, Sport of Queens, was an autobiography. Following that he was a racing correspondant for 16 years. Francis’s first mystery novel, Dead Cert, was published in 1962. His 40th book, Shattered was published in 2006.
