What is Chester?
Chester is a reticulated giraffe. He is the official mascot of Waterloo Public Library’s Children’s Department.
How old is Chester?
6 years old
How tall is he? What does he weigh?
When Chester was born he was 2 m. (6’6”) tall. Full grown, he could be up to 6m (20’) tall and weigh up to 1,350 kg. (3000 lb.).
Where did Chester come from?
Reticulated giraffes come from north-eastern Kenya, eastern Sudan and Eritrea…but Chester loves life in Waterloo!
What’s his favourite colour?
Blue and orange (he can’t pick just one!)
What’s his favourite food and drink?
Like any good giraffe, Chester eats lots of green, leafy vegetables and icy cold water. But he also likes Kraft Dinner (KD), bubble gum and root beer!
What does he want to be when he grows up?
A basketball player.
What are his favourite teams?
Waterloo Wolves and Waterloo Siskins (Chester is hockey crazy!).
What’s his favourite book?
Any Curious George book, and Goodnight Gorilla.
What’s his favourite subject?
Geography
Does Chester have a pet?
Yes, a gold fish named Bubbles.

Does Chester have any hobbies?
Reading, of course! But he also likes to paint and draw pictures (crayons are his favourite). Chester wants to learn how to swim, but it’s very hard for giraffes!
