Books to Grow
The Waterloo Public Library, in partnership with Home Child Care, Region of Waterloo, is bringing a love of reading to children and families who may not be able to come to the public library.
Our Books to Grow volunteers take books and story kits into homes, daycares and other child care environments for children who might not otherwise be able to come to the library. The volunteer will share a story time and provide materials to help support reading and promote literacy.
The Books to Grow program targets children from birth to age six.
“Great children’s books are fun to read aloud,” says Joan Taylor, Manager of Children’s Services at WPL. “Books lay the foundation for a love of reading, help children develop listening and expanded language skills, and build a basic knowledge of the world. “By reading to children, we’re helping increase their chances for lifelong learning, literacy and ongoing school success.”
