New hours at all locations coming soon

John M. Harper Branch to re-open on Fridays

Since closing the Harper Branch on Fridays beginning in January 2016 due to budget constraints, Waterloo Public Library's administration has been looking for opportunities which would allow the branch to re-open on Fridays.

Due to unexpected attrition savings and reflective of WPL’s lean staffing model, WPL is able to confirm sustainable funding for the John M. Harper Branch’s Friday operating hours moving forward.

“We are pleased to see the restoration of Friday operating hours to the John M. Harper Branch. Our over-arching goal remains the establishment of a sustainably funded, high-quality, four-branch public library system, for the citizens of Waterloo. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I want to thank our administration and staff, for their relentless dedication to our patrons and to the overall success of the Waterloo Public Library” said Karen Scian, Waterloo Public Library Board Chair.

Fridays openings at the John M. Harper Branch will begin on July 7, 2017.

Opening Hours Changing at All Locations

In response to demand from the public and due to the commitment of WPL staff to ensure efficiencies in work flow, all locations of the Waterloo Public Library will open at 9:30am (excluding Sundays) instead of 10:00am as of July 3, 2017.

There will be no financial impact on the operating budget and staff are delighted to offer this additional and earlier opening time to customers.

WPL is dedicated to fulfilling the multiple literacy needs of our community. Our staff and the Library Board continue to explore ways in which we can best serve the citizens of Waterloo.  Any questions can be directed to:
