Featured Titles Fall-Winter 2017 list

Bring on winter! Bring on cozy clothes, crackling fires, endless coffee and, of course, books! No need to stress yourself looking for the next must read. WPL's Collections Department has put together a list highlighting the best of recent adult publishing.

Looking for something unexpected? Try Tom Hanks short story collection, Uncommon Type. If you’re looking for the next “Girl on the____” style book, pick up The Last Mrs. Parrish. Prefer a twisted fairy tale? Try Hiddensee, a Nutcracker mash-up. Want to leave this world? Andy Weir’s latest space venture, Artemis, will help you do just that!

We have featured three localish authors as well: Maureen Jenning's latest Murdoch Mystery addition, Let Darkness Bury the Dead will be good for a winter’s night. David Chariandy’s Brother was longlisted for the Giller, and speaks to a generation raised in the GTA. Lastly, KW’s very own E.K. Johnston has released That Inevitable Victorian Thing, a speculative teen fiction read we’re sure adults will embrace.

Have a “hard to buy for” person on your holiday shopping list? Why not use our non-fiction titles as your shopping list. Murray Howe’s tribute to his dad, Nine Lessons I Learned From My Father, is a must read for sports fans and all of us who have loved and lost a giant in our lives. Jan Arden’s Feeding My Mother—an honest expose of love, aging, and the ties that bind—is beautiful. Like families, but not people? Try reading The Wolf, an exploration of a wolf pack living in Yellowstone National Park. Curious about Canada? Roy MacGregor’s Original Highways traces the river routes which formed a nation.

Get that coffee. Sit back, relax, and browse our Featured Titles list. We're sure you will find your next great read there.
