Holds

If an item isn’t available on your library visit, you may wish to place a hold on it. A hold is a reservation for a particular item in the Library’s collection. We will notify you when the item is ready.

When you place a hold, the item will be flagged in our computer system. Shortly after the item returns, you will be contacted by telephone or by e-mail. At that point you are given three business days in which to visit the library and pick up the item being held.

Items which have a hold placed against them may not be renewed by the current borrower.

Place holds through the Library Catalogue or by telephone:

  • Information Desk (Adult) (519) 886-1310 ext. 124
  • Children’s Department (519) 886-1310 ext. 129
  • McCormick Branch (519) 886-1310 ext. 213

When you place your hold, you must select either WPL Main Library or WPL McCormick Branch as your pickup location. You will be contacted when the item is ready. Placing a hold is a free service.

You do require a numeric PIN (Personal Identification Number) to place holds.

Going on vacation?  You may want to Freeze your holds to secure your place in the waiting list.

Don’t Need Your Hold Anymore?

If you placed a hold and you no longer need the item, please login to your account in View Your Account and cancel the hold. This not only saves staff time but it frees up library material more quickly for the next person.

Holds and Download Library

The majority of Download Library audiobooks each have one license.  What this means is that only one person can sign out an audiobook at a time, just like regular library items.  If an audiobook indicates Place a Hold that means that the license for the book is currently being used (the audiobook is checked out to someone else).  You can place a hold on the item by selecting the Place a Hold link and inserting your library name, library card number and your e-mail address.  Once the audiobook becomes available, you will receive an e-mail.  At that point you will have 4 days in which to go online to sign out the audiobook.  Loan periods for audiobooks are 1-2 weeks and movies are 3, 5 or 7 day loans.
