Get a Card for Kids
(12 and under)
Under WPL’s reciprocal borrowing program, members of the Kitchener, Cambridge, Region of Waterloo, Brant County and Hamilton Region public library systems can also join WPL for free upon presentation of an active library card from their home system.
Memberships are renewed once a year with a quick confirmation of your personal information.
For customers residing outside of the areas mentioned above, membership at WPL may still be obtained at a cost of $35.00 per year or $20.00 for 6 months.
How do I get a card for my child?
Simply bring your child to the library, present one piece of identification with your name and current address, and we’ll provide your child with their own card.
By signing the card as their parent/caregiver, you agree to return all items borrowed, pay for overdue materials, and pay replacement and processing costs for lost or damaged materials.
Children 13 years of age and over must present identification with their own name and current address.
What does a library membership entitle my child to?
A world of reading and much, much more including DVDs, CDs, recorded books, magazines, and free children’s programs.
Will my child’s card allow them to access the Internet?
Children’s memberships will only be able to access the free Internet and games computers in the Children’s Department. Children will require a PIN (personal identification number) in order to access the computers in the Children’s Department.
Your PIN Protects Your Privacy
Access to your child’s account is protected by your PIN (Personal Identification Number). A numeric PIN is needed to use the Internet and games computers in the Children’s Department, to place holds, to renew material online, and to access online databases and services.
View Your Account
You can view your child’s account from any Internet-enabled computer.
Lost Cards
If your child’s card is lost or stolen, please report it immediately. The replacement cost of a library card is $3.00. Identification with name and current address is required to obtain a replacement card.
